MUFX Training

The US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics lists Theatrical Makeup Artist at #7 of the top 30 job growth fields (2006-2016) in the United States. Positions in the field are expected to grow by almost 40% in the next several years!

That being said, unless you are on or near the east or west coast of the United States, there isn’t anywhere in between where you can go and learn the craft and artistry of special makeup effects. And taking time off from a paying job – often for several weeks, or even months – away from friends and family to go back to school is usually out of the question.

In addition, many of the programs are set up only to teach makeup, not special makeup effects; those schools with programs that do promise MUFX training can often cost in excess of $10,000 US. Those programs frequently require mandatory straight and beauty makeup classes as well. While those skills are essential to have along with solid MUFX chops, our emphasis is on the design and creation of prosthetic makeup only.

Through a variety of one or two-day weekend workshops, and one-week classes we can teach you the skills you’ll need to fabricate your own creature and character prosthetics using a variety of methods and materials.

Today’s economic conditions are causing more and more projects to hire makeup artists who can apply their own prosthetic appliances. The training offered here will help you gain an advantage by teaching you how to be ready for anything that happens on set or in the lab. You provide the motivation and imagination, and we’ll provide everything else, including the materials and supplies you’ll need to learn.

  • One day workshops will run on Saturdays
  • Two day workshops on Saturdays and Sundays
  • One week classes can run consecutively Monday through Friday, or stretched over three consecutive weekends (2 Sat/Sun; 1 Sat)
